TIGR SSS

SSS is a middle tier storage solution for blob storage and composition.
Written for the bioinformatics realm, it could have more general application.
SSS is open-source software for J2EE servers such as JBoss.

Project Goals

SSS is software for organizing large chunks of data. SSS is middleware that frees client software from having to encode data storage specifics. SSS lets client software exploit serverside efficiency for the composition of multirecord data files.

In the realm of bioinformatics, SSS is perfect for the storage of FASTA files. In fact, SSS was developed in an environment where large numbers of long DNA sequences (strings of the 4 letters A, C, G, T) were saved then often collected into text files formatted as FASTA.

More generally, SSS is ideal for data that meets all these requirements:

Records are written once and never changed.
Records are retrieved by ID but not parsed during queries.
Records are often composed into multirecord output files.
